Donostia Beach
San Sebastian (Donostia in Euskara, and officially Donostia) is a town and municipality located in northern Spain, in the Bay of Biscay coast and 20 kilometers from the border with France. The city is the capital of the province of Guipuzcoa, the Basque Autonomous Community. The population of the municipality is 185 510 people (2010) and its metropolitan area reaches 405 099.
Its main economic activities are commerce and tourism, being one of the most famous tourist destinations in Spain. The landscape, dominated by the Bay of La Concha and modern architectural development initiated in the second half of the nineteenth century, who set a city of bourgeois French court, led the development of tourism at European level. All this, together with international events like the International Film Festival San Sebastian, has outreach to the city, despite its small size. San Sebastian is currently a candidate for European Capital of Culture 2016.
